Barclay looked up to where Kadia nodded, and it took him several moments to notice the very, very tiny owllike Beast perched atop the kitchen cabinets. It was smaller than most mice. Its huge yellow eyes were fixed frightfully on Root, who gnawed on an antelope bone in the room’s corner.
