The Woods

“The twisted gray trees gave way to new kinds: trees with thorns like daggers growing up their trunks, trees with knots in their bark that looked like faces. The first snow was falling, and the gnarled roots that snaked across the white ground reminded Barclay of decayed hands reached out of a grave crows cawed overhead, as though urging him to turn back, to run.”

Selected Beast Entries from A Traveler's Log of Dangerous Beasts:
  • Luftund

Tricky to find and trickier to tame, as they are fiercely independent. Resembling large black wolves, they can grow up to six feet long and four feet tall. They can turn entirely into wind, like a rush of smoke billowing past, and their Lore can conjure storms and wind gusts. Absolutely magnificent! Also highly dangerous.

  • Papierfly

These mothlike Beasts hatch from cocoons that resemble papyrus reeds, and though they pose little danger to humans, their wings can give you a nasty paper cut.

  • Stoolip

These Beasts live in clusters and resemble mushrooms, but their caps can induce drowsiness and sleep when suctioned to the skin. Removing the caps does not cause the Beasts any harm.
